SHAKESPEARE UP CLOSE: AGES OF BEING
OUR RECENT EXTENSION IS ALMOST SOLD OUT, SO WE HAVE ADDED SOME THURSDAY PERFORMANCES, ALSO SOME EXTRA SEATS FOR ALL NIGHTS.
New City founding artists, Mary Ewald and John Kazanjian, have created a compilation of compelling speeches and sonnets tracing the arc of life from youth to old age. It is performed for 12 people per night in the living room of a 1904 Capitol Hill home. New City has been producing theater in Seattle since 1982. Past living room performances have included work by T.S. Eliot, Wallace Shawn, Allen Ginsberg, and Walt Whitman. Past Shakespearean productions include HAMLET and THE TEMPEST.
HAMLET review, Misha Berson (Seattle Times): "Ewald and Kazanjian have sculpted every line with care...Every soliloquy is felt-through, its linguistic intricacies unknotted and laid bare. Ewald gives us access to Hamlet's thought process, clarifying and refreshing metaphors you may have never really heard or understood...this staging is all about making the words, words, words of Shakespeare's opus--every one of them-- ring clear and true and meaningful."
We hope you will join us for an intimate evening of great speeches from the Bard.
