WILD SEED CEREMONY will be honoring science fiction and speculative fiction American science fiction writer Octavia Butler who wrote %u201CWild Seed.%u201D "Wild Seed" is based on Ms. Butler's Patternist Series of books involving time travel, immortality, human to animal transformations, and key characters voyaging from Africa to Colonial America to establish new communities.
This multigenerational, ethnically diverse and multidisciplinary event will include a sharing ceremony in Pratt Park, and a procession with costumes to Jaam Rek Studio. The main program will include readings from the "Wild Seed" book, as well as spoken word and music evoking the spirit of futuristic fiction. We will share seed packets as a pledge for our Planet Earth.

This lively progressive program follows upon last June's Octavia Butler Birthday Tribute held at Elliott Bay Books and the highly successful Octavia Butler program held at EMP held February 28, 2014, which drew a sold out crowd of 300 Butler fans, as well as performers Cat from Thee Satisfaction and Gabriel Teodros, and a presentation by the national anthology project "Octavia's Brood."  "Wild Seed" is expected to draw a full house with limited seating to hear personal accounts by artists and community members, such as Cat of TheeSatisfaction & Felicia Loud of Black Staxx, reading favorite and meaningful passages in an interactive ceremony composed of culturally diverse and progressive speculative and science fiction enthusiasts of all ages.

"Wild Seed" supports and reinforces a creative, progressive futuristic literary vision for all
readers, writers and artists. Ms. Butler serves as a stellar visionary for her honesty and clear vision of strong female leaders of color. Outreach will focus on young writers of color. Low cost tickets will invite all persons.
