CoastWord is a celebration of written, spoken word and song-writing to bring Dunbar, East Lothian and all our many visitors together in story, song and poetry. Combining grass-roots story-making with readings and workshops from established, emerging and local writers, poets, singer-songwriters, CoastWord provides an unique opportunity to celebrate all our stories and enhance our community and region whilst adding another platform and opportunity to the wider literary community in Scotland and beyond.
The festival was established in 2013, expanding as CoastWord in 2014, with writers Bernard MacLaverty, Liz Lochhead joining emerging writers such as Samuel Best, The Scottish Book Trust New Writers and local DunBards. CoastWord also invited the National Library of Scotland and The Scottish Book Trust to Dunbar to deliver exciting workshops to our local community and the many visitors to the festival.
In the Lead Up! to the 2015 festival we aim to further support our lead up community projects from the last two years such as Writing Mums, enabling an expanding group of local mothers to develop and share their writing, and add to our DunBard films, showcasing the work of local writers. We will also be supporting Book Week Scotland 2014 and the Dunbar Sci-Fest 2015 in pop -up events.
