The beautifully restored turn-of-the-century Arts Center, formerly known as the Alice Arts Center, is one of the area's busiest performing arts facilities. The Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts is a focal point of performing arts in the Bay Area offering a plethora of activities such a cultural dance classes, performing art workshops & plays, seminars & forums, arts classes, and more. Patrons can participate in a variety of arts programs or rent spaces for arts events, performances, workshops, and activities. Spaces available for rent include a 350-seat theater, five dance studios, meeting rooms, and rehearsal spaces. The 350-seat theater and five performance spaces showcase drama, ballet, and African and contemporary dance. This restored 1920's building is a popular multicultural, multidisciplinary performing-arts complex sponsored by the City of Oakland's Office of Parks & Recreation. Though the Malonga has a long standing history dating back to the 1920's, it's popularity and contribution to the community has restored itself both structurally and functionally and will continue to do so through art, inspiration, and community support.
