About Serious Theatre Collective
Founded in 2006 the Serious Theatre Collective is a playwright based writers collective dedicated to making new work that is original, high-quality, affordable, accessible, remarkably entertaining, surprising, and fun.
We meet weekly to write our scripts collectively, a la Exquisite Corpse. Then, following weeks or months of gathering good material, we revise and revise -- and revise -- and, armed with a still-malleable script in-hand, we begin rehearsals.
STC has consistently created one new piece a year and premiered it for New York audiences including: a sketch comedy showcase entitled "One Allotted Hour of Entertainment", a Vaudeville about the truth behind urban legends: "Professor von Awesome's Traveling Caravan of Cautionary Warnings", a rock musical set in a shocking dystopian future: "The Legend of Johnny 15", a full length dark comedy about the end of the world, "The Apocalypse of John" which toured the 2012 Philly Fringe and New York International Fringe Festival (winning the FringeNYC overall excellence award for Best Ensemble), and, in 2013, our second installment of Vaudeville and Halloween-themed fun, "Professor von Awesome's Ghost Hunting Safari" which played to sold out crowds in both NY and Philadelphia. |
