Catalina PlayersTucson, AZ
Catalina Players began in 1983 with a handful of people drawn together by a common interest in the study of theatre arts. Now in its 25th year, with Executive Director Priscilla Marquez at the helm, Catalina Players has undergone marked changes. Most notably, the group has evolved from a small ensemble of performers into a non-profit organization open to the public. The organization stands by its mission to produce high-quality plays, musicals and contemporary productions that have allowed it to be one of the states longest operating theatre companies. With a legacy of past productions such as The Diary of Anne Frank, Crimes of the Heart, The Miracle Worker, Inherit the Wind, No Sex Please We're British, and most recently The Boys Next Door,Close Ties, The Guys as well as culturally diverse productions like Las Nuevas Tamaleras, Our Lady of the Tortilla, America-Ojala and King of the Kosher Grocers as well as local playwright Julieta Gonzales' production Claudia's Family, the company's future focus entails encouraging community participation through a growing outreach program and by selecting material that will attract a more diverse set of performers and audience members.
