Black & 25 in America is a searing one-man play that explores the issues of race, class, gender and identity through the life stories of characters such as Big Man, Joshua Thomas Northington III, Darron, and Marcy. Audience discussions with the playwright follow each thought-provoking show.
Award-winning actor/playwright Jeremy Gillett gives his audience insight on what it is to be a young, Black adult in America today. Through a series of vignettes, the play reveals how each character feels invisible and without voice.
More timely than ever, Black & 25 in America was originally developed at the University of Kentucky, and has been staged in theaters and colleges around the U.S. New York's The Dramatist reviewed the play, noting "An extraordinary actor and playwright...performs with theatrical precision and riveting subtlety."
The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival has selected Jeremy Gillett as one of their Featured Artists this February 2018. Fresh off this honor, Gillett will perform the play for three nights in Los Angeles at The Atwater Village Theater. Gillett has also performed in feature films including Hitting the Cycle, Car Dogs, and is a lead in the upcoming film, Raptors, Executive Produced by Martin Lawrence and directed by Kevin Brooks.
