Pianist, Daniel Lockert and Soprano, Jenny Matteucci had a vision to promote the love of song. Through their efforts, the Sausalito Song Society was born with song recitals and cabaret performances once a month from September to May. Like any new idea, the Sausalito Song Society started with enthusiastic desire, and gentle prodding. Together as a singer and collaborative pianist, Jenny and Daniel understand and deeply respect the relationship between piano and voice and the wonderful repertoire that was created for that combination. The prodding came from our students after we taught a series of French melódie classes in our home. What started with one, ended up as three full series of classes including one on French duets. It seems that our love of song is infectious, and we are excited to share it with audiences, and students alike. Although it has never been a lost art, the genre is not performed as much as one would hope, and yet it is so eclectic, containing something for everyone. It only seemed perfect to use the beautiful Campbell Hall as it is such a perfect venue for this repertoire, and an afternoon of music in beautiful Sausalito is an afternoon not soon forgotten.
