Erasing the Distance

Erasing the Distance uses the power of performance to disarm stigma, spark dialogue, educate, and promote healing surrounding issues of mental health. We gather, transcribe, and sculpt true stories from people impacted by mental health issues into theatrical pieces for the stage. Our ensemble of professional actors then brings these stories to life onstage before a live audience. Every performance is followed by a moderated, interactive dialogue with the audience that explores the play's themes and, when appropriate, identification of mental illness signs, symptoms, recovery options, and community resources.  Since ETD's founding in 2005, our shows have been seen by more than 50,000 people throughout Illinois and beyond.
