Hat City Music Theater, Inc. is the acclaimed professional non-profit music, theater and opera company based in Danbury, Connecticut, at one time known as the Hat City of the World.
Hat City Music Theater administers The American Prize national competitions in the performing arts and sponsors professional theater and opera and music events, the Candlewood Symphony Orchestra, the Marian Anderson Studio Legacy Vocal Series, and the Friedrich Schorr Memorial Performance Prize in Voice international competition. David Katz is founder and artistic director of the company, governed by a community-based board of directors. Charles Nelson Reilly, the Tony Award-winning actor and acclaimed Broadway and theater director, served the company as Honorary Chairman of the Friedrich Schorr Prize until his death in May 2007.
The organization performs both in Fairfield County in Connecticut and on tour. Hat City Music Theater is the producer of Mr. Katz's one-man play, MUSE of FIRE, premiered in 2005 and seen in Baltimore, Chicago and other U.S. and Canadian cities.
