I am a dance maker and performance artist originally from Seattle. I have lived in New York City since 2008.
I have studied dance and performance art in India, Thailand, Mexico, Hungary, Austria, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Turkey. I have further toured my work to festivals in Vienna and Budapest. In 2006, I received a scholarship to study and perform with MacArthur Awardee Guillermo Gomez-Pena in Oaxaca, where we addressed the intense political protests in the region. In 2007-2008, I was a Graduate Research Fellow from the University of Utah, and traveled and engaged with dancers throughout Balkan Europe, addressing their experiences with social and political displacement.
My experience with dance and performance all over the world inspired me to become a proponent of artistic exchange. In 2009, I started an in-home residency program to provide free housing for visiting artists who don%u2019t have the resources to pay for housing while completing projects here. I host 1 artist at a time, engaging each artist in a collaborative project, and operating the program entirely by word of mouth. Artists who have made use of this program include: Amapola Prada (Peru), Maria Nurmela (Finland), Julia Klaring and Paula Pfoser (Austria), Paola Marugan Ricart (Spain), Sarah Ibanez O'Donnell (UK), Martin Lanz Landazuri (Mexico), Katelyn Hales and Molly Beardmore (USA), among others.
During the 2011-2012 dance season, I will tour my work to Salt Lake City, create a new work for the Movement Research Fall Festival at St. Mark's Church, and finish my first NYC evening-length work for the Cunningham Studio in February of 2012. This work will be the last production housed at the Cunningham Studio before it closes. Over the last three years I have created dances for Draftwork, Danspace%u2019s Food for Thought, Movement Research, the Brooklyn Arts Exchange's Upstart Festival, Dance New Amsterdam, The Chocolate Factory%u2019s Throw series, Bushwick%u2019s SITE Festival, Chen Dance Center, Superfront Brooklyn, as a part of Panoply Lab's 2011 Performance Art conference, among others.
My work has been further commissioned by the Bellingham Repertory Dance Theater, and by students from the University of Utah and Western Washington University.
I have performed in works by Yvonne Meier, Ishmael Houston-Jones, Khecari Dance Theater, Schall und Rauch Agency in Vienna, and with Guillermo Gomez-Pena at the Museum of Modern Art in Oaxaca, Mexico. I have further performed in the A.W.A.R.D. Show at Joyce Soho, and at Judson Church.
I also work on collaborative projects with Panoply Lab (http://www.panoplylab.org), The Woods Cooperative (www.thewoodscooperative.org).
