Shibari 301 Rope Bondage Suspension Fundamentals: Hikyaku (Postman) and Yoko (Side) Forms
Come learn two beautiful and iconic shibari suspension forms with Seattle Shibari: Hikyaku Tsuri(Postman Suspension) and Yoko Zuri (Side Suspension).
In this four hour workshop, we will review the hands-free chest harness and the 2-rope gote shibari (TK/box tie), and then learn and practice these two beautiful suspensions. We'll also learn, review & polish:
Basic Top Line Techniques Tying into harnesses and tying limbs Line Management Safety Issues Sample Body Positions
This workshop is appropriate for all genders, sexual orientations, and body types. To ensure personal attention to each participant, class size will be limited to 8 duos.
Due to the detailed technical nature of this workshop, one person per pair will tie. No late entry will be allowed due to the nature of this workshop. Doors will be locked at 10 minutes after the start time.
Prerequisite: Tops should be comfortable tying a structurally solid 2-rope gote shibari (box tie), be competent in basic suspension line locking & management techniques, and have prior experience with partial suspension. They should have awareness of potential nerve impingement issues associated with rope bondage, and be confident in communicating about them in an ongoing fashion with the rope bottom. If they do not wish to use a gote shibari for the course, it's fine to tie a hands-free chest harness, instead.
Bottoms should be comfortable being tied in a gote shibari/TK, have prior experience being suspended, and be competent in monitoring themselves for nerve/circulation issues & communicating same to the rope top.
Please bring: (8-10) 8 meter to 30 ropes, 6mm in diameter. Hemp or Jute is recommended. 8mm hemp or jute for the main suspension line is also recommended (8mm is stronger/safer as a main suspension line). Its also helpful to have some shorter lengths of rope in your kit. Short on rope? Well have a bit extra on hand to loan out to students. Please be aware the both jute & hemp are not load-rated, making suspension inherently hazardous. Students wishing to use load-rated synthetic toplines are more than welcome to do so in this class.
(8) Pear-shaped or oval climbing carabiners. We recommend the Petzl Hera Attache, available at REI. Catalog Item #109589. Your carabiners MUST be rated for climbing. Optional Gear: Steel Suspension Ring
