Home and Away London was at the centre of musical life in this country in the eighteenth century. Ambitious musicians from other parts of the country came there to seek their fortunes and, above all, many musicians from overseas came, either on visits or to settle permanently. We are giving a concert of harp solos and works for cello and harp on original instruments of the period and want to show the cosmopolitan nature of London musical life in our programme. Only one of our composers was born in London ( and his father was an Italian! ) but all of them spent time there.
Rosemary plays an English cello made about 1780, and retaining all its original fittings, and Mikes harp was built, probably, in Paris about 1785 These instruments produce sounds from the musical world in which these pieces were created, so different from the modern instruments Wine and soft drinks will be available in the interval and we would be grateful for donations in support of Alton Cardiac Rehab
