Peace. As of Jan 1, 2025, 452 days have passed since the Palestinian Resistance undertook the Battle of the Al-Aqsa Flood and Israel responded with the death of over 45,500* Palestinians and the destruction of all infrastructure needed to sustain life - hospitals, electric grids, sewage systems, agricultural land, and more. Let us be very clear that this genocide is not unprecedented. In fact, this is what colonial war has always looked like. Throughout history, imperial forces have invariably poisoned, violated and slaughtered the indigenous population and their land in order to build stolen wealth. What we now know as China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Corea, Myanmar, the Philippines, the Pacific Islands, Malaysia, Tibet, Nepal, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Southwest and West Asia, Africa, South and Central America, the so-called united states (and more!) have all witnessed the horrors of empire and are still living its repercussions. Imperial conquest draws links between all of our peoples and lands; however, we believe that we are connected by far more than violent bloodshed and the plundering of our lifeways.
2025 is the Year of the Snake, our kin who spends her entire life with her body on the earth while her eyes gaze upwards towards the heavens. What lessons can we learn from our snake friends, who are grounded in the material realities of this world while also looking towards a liberated future beyond what we can see? Snakes shed what is no longer needed and transform themselves. This world and our communities are asking us for more. In this next year, what will we shed for a better tomorrow? How will we transform so that we may all be liberated? Let us do it for our ancestors who gave their lives for us, and for our children and their children who have yet to come. And let us do it together.
Please convene with us on the land as we welcome in this lunar new year. Our intentions are to provide space to connect with the land and each other, explore love as fuel for revolution, fortify our relationships and lay the foundations for a unified network to sustain meaningful collective resistance. We hope what we do today fortifies our communities for what is yet to come.
We affirm our steadfast support for the liberation of all our peoples and lands all over the world! 100% of proceeds raised from this event will be directed towards the Sameer Project, the Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance and Casey Goonan's legal fees. Please bring a mask. Despite the event being outdoors, there are still multiple variants of several airborne viruses being spread throughout the general population at the moment, and the potential for pandemics is now a part of life. COVID-19 still persists and is still life-threatening to many; long COVID is a risk for all of us. Community care means that we take measures to protect ourselves and others, especially when we know that the systems of oppression are already killing us. Masks will be available on-site.
There will be photography for the archives and we will ask for consent day-of. No photos taken from the event will be publicized without permission. For attendees taking photographs or recording videos of your own, we ask that you be mindful of other folks' presence in your images.
For all spoken activities, there will also be written text available to convey information. Our activities can be modified for any range of motion. Food at the event will be vegan and Celiac-friendly, and will be labeled with common allergens.
The farm is approximately a 20 minute walk from Glen Park Bart Station and is located on land belonging to SF Rec and Park. There will be limited parking on-site on a first-come, first-serve basis. Attendees are invited to park along Alemany Blvd, or on Justin Dr. by St. Mary's Park. Please see image below for reference (red highlight is suggested parking; blue line is suggested pathway from parking to farm entrance). The walkways outside farm beds range from pavement to rocky. The majority of the farm is relatively flat. There is an incline leading up to one section of the farm (there will not be activities here). There are also stairways leading to the lower portion of the farm (there also will not be activities here). There are porta-potties on side; the restrooms at St. Mary's Recreation Center are also accessible for use and have wheelchair accessibility.
