NEVER AGAIN!: An exploration of life, music, & art in the Camps
    In 1942, soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor, FDR signed Executive Order 9066, requiring that all those of Japanese extraction be removed from West Coast Military Exclusion Zones, resulting in the relocation of 120,000 American citizens and legal residents to Internment Camps.

                        NOTE: Refreshments will be available at all three events!

         >>>  Event # 1: "My Dad, the activist"  Sunday, October 13, 2024, 4:00 PM  <<<
     Dr. Karen Korematsu, daughter of Oakland-born Fred Korematsu, who was arrested for resisting the relocation order and convicted in Federal District Court, will tell her fathers story and reveal the life he and his family experienced in the internment camps.

       >>>  Event # 2: "Remembering, 80 years later"  Saturday, November 2, 7:00 PM  <<<
        Wendy Tokuda, an award-winning journalist, will share stories of her family's time in the camps. She was the first Asian American to anchor weekday primetime TV newscasts in SF and one of the first to report on the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII.

    Kimi Hill, the granddaughter of famed artist Chiura Obata, a Cal professor interned during the war, will bring you his art and other art produced in the camps, as detailed in her book Topaz Moon: Chiura Obata's Art of the Internment.

              >>>  Event # 3: "Alternative Facts"  Saturday, November 23, 7:00 PM  <<<
                        ALTERNATIVE FACTS: The Lies of Executive Order 9066:
                                            Film, ~ 60 mins. by Jon Osaki.
    A documentary about the false information and political influence which led to the World War II incarceration of Japanese-Americans.

  After the screening, film-maker Osaki will discuss the case and the film with Don Tamaki, the attorney instrumental in getting Fred Korematsu's conviction vacated by the Federal District Court in 1983.
