Which Thousand Words? A Workshop on Reading Old Photographs -- Dick Miller
We all have old photos lying about faded ancestors in ornate frames, dusty albums in the closet, boxes of snapshots under the bed.
Who are these people? When and where were these scenes? Why do we treasure them?
This three-session course is a hands-on workshop in how to "read" images from photography's classic age, the 1830s to the 1990s.
We'll review the history of photography and offer hints on dating, identifying image types, and making sense of what they show, then apply these tools to photographs participants bring to share.
Please bring a good magnifying glass to class, along with one or two old (pre-digital) photos you'd like to know more about.
Dick Miller is a retired social historian and frequent taker and giver of LLCC courses who finds old photographs endlessly fascinating.
This course will be held on Fridays, Jan. 30, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13 from 10:00am to noon in Room 3009 of Building 3000 on the North Campus of Cuesta College in Paso Robles.
This course has three sessions. Buying a ticket to this course entitles you to attend all three sessions of this course.
