The Expert's Mind, in partnership with Litquake: "Across Bodies," with Richard McCann & Neil Theise
Richard McCann is the author of "Mother of Sorrows" and "Ghost Letters." His poetry, fiction and essays have appeared in such magazines as The Atlantic, Ms., Esquire, Ploughshares, Tin House, The Washington Post Magazine, and in numerous anthologies.
Neil Theise, M.D. is a clinical diagnostic liver pathologist and Professor of Pathology and of Medicine Beth Israel Medical Center in New York whose research in multi-organ adult stem cell plasticity has revised understandings of human liver microanatomy.
"Across Bodies" features Richard McCann, whose memoir-in-progress, "The Resurrectionist" investigates illness and mortality through a narrative exploration of his experience as a liver transplant recipient, and Dr. Neil Theise, a pioneering liver pathologist, who draws inspiration from complexity theory and non-Western models of the body for health and healing. The evening is presented by the San Francisco Zen Center's series, The Expert's Mind, in partnership with San Francisco's premiere literary festival, Litquake. Presentations by each speaker will be followed by dialogue and audience discussion. Litquake pass holders may attend free of charge.
