Seeds & Toy Theatre After Dark
Open Eye Figure Theater presents two weeks of amazing puppetry in March, beginning with a showcase of two new works and culminating in performances of eight miniature works by five artists.
Week 1: SEEDS showcases two new works by emerging artists Kyle Loven and Eric Van Wyk, whose work is supported by funding from the Henson Foundation. Loven performs his one-man triptych, my dear Lewis, combining puppets, objects, video, and original music by George Maurer. O the Sky! by Eric Van Wyk employs shadow puppetry, objects and figures to tell the story of a man who leaves a big city in the east to travel west.
WEEK 2: Toy Theatre after Dark IV. Open Eye's fourth Annual Toy Theatre After Dark, bringing to stage puppetry in miniature by five artists: Open Eye's Michael Sommers, Chicago artist Meredith Miller, sculptor cum performer Irve Dell, marionette artist Kurt Hunter, and up and coming Liz Schachterle, originator of the Full Moon Puppet Cabaret at Bedlam Theatre. Audiences will sample the diverse approaches to miniature puppetry work as the stage explodes with suitcase shows, paper marionettes, wearable theatre, table top cantastorias, shadow play and weird object animation!
