Voted best of Suncoast 2009, SYBARITE5 returns to Sarasota May 15 & 16 2010 for TWO genre-busting concerts. The concerts will include works by Radiohead, Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland, Led Zeppelin and 2 WORLD PREMIERE compositions.
SYBARITE5 is a unique New York-based string quintet noted for its eclectic programming and repertoire. The New York-based ensemble was founded by Louis Levitt, the groups double bassist, who is a Sarasota native and grew up attending Pine View School and the Sarasota Youth Orchestra Program. The other members of the group are violinists Sami Merdinian and Sarah Whitney, violist Angela Pickett, and cellist Laura Metcalf.
In recent years, SYBARITE5 has been featured on NPR's Performance Today, the CBS Morning Show, in concert with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on the international performance channel Medici.tv, and at major venues in New York City; Aspen, CO; and elsewhere. In 2008, SYBARITE5 was the first-ever quintet to be admitted into the prestigious Advanced Quartet Studies Program at the Aspen Music Festival and School, where they worked with members of the Emerson, Juilliard, Ying, Cavani and American String Quartets. The group is known for its innovative programming and its dedication to expanding the repertoire for string quintet, and was featured in Strings magazine in 2008.
"The Sybarite Chamber Players are a New York based group of gifted young string musicians who have gained a reputation for juxtaposing the likes of Stravinsky with Radiohead, or Dvorak with Led Zeppelin. But that doesn't even begin to describe the range of their eclecticism or the depth of their repertoire." - Greg Cahill, Strings Magazine
Holley Hall is transformed into an intimate music setting for this one of a kind concert weekend!
