The Wailin' Jennys have become a familiar musical voice with lots of local radio play and numerous appearances on NPR. Their biography can be summed up as three extraordinary voices, two founding singer-songwriters, and one singular vision: The Wailin Jennys continue to evolve into far more than the melodious sum of their individual talents almost eight years after blowing in on a fresh acoustic breeze from Canadas mid-western heartland. The group began as a happy accident in 2002, when three friends played together for a one-time-only performance at a guitar shop in Winnipeg. They had such obvious chemistry on stage and enjoyed themselves so immensely that they decided to pursue this new musical union, forming The Wailin Jennys. Since the release of their first album in 2004, and rave reviews and awards in the years that have followed, the Jennys have achieved success performing their signature vocal style incorporating a cross-border brand of North American roots music with an acoustically-driven accompaniment. Review M Magazine wrote that the Wailin Jennys have " some of the most pitch-perfect, gorgeous harmonies you're likely to hear." The Boston Globe added that "Their sweeping melodicism defies boundaries, feeling at once edgy and familiar, delivered in harmonies that could melt a Manitoba February." Opening the show will be local Mendocino County favorites the Blushin Roulettes, the folksy twanggang delivers old-time tunes with a modern twist deeply rooted in feminine perspective. Songwriter/ guitarist Angela Rose belts her sweet and sultry tunes of damsels in their bliss and distress in a warbling vibrato often compared to Iris Dement and Dolly Parton. Kate Stone adds her smooth vocal harmonies as she holds down the low end plucking and bowing her cello. Cas Sochacki adds subtle dobro licks while contributing on baritone duets with Rose. This concert is a fundraiser for KZYX&Z, 90.7, 91.5, and 88.1 FM, the community non-commercial radio station of Mendocino County, serving several counties of northern California from studios in Philo, Willits, and Mendocino.
