CatScratch Theatre presents HOMELAND
HOMELAND is an evening-length dance/theatre event by Jeramy Zimmerman/CatScratch Theatre.
CatScratch Theatre is a scrappy band of misfit dancers. We dance anywhere that we can and even some places where we cant. Were classy and well-trained, but irreverent. Were usually dressed to the nines.
We believe that art is powerful. It has the power to unite and heal. It has the ability to promote peace, empathy and understanding. It can spark a revolution or an economic revitalization.
We have a strong commitment to and history of community activation. Our earliest performances were guerrilla taking dance to the people instead of convincing the people to come to us in a theater. Over the years, we have stayed true to our roots by public performance that seeks to alter the way that New Yorkers view and interact with their environment. We have strengthened the dance community by creating and producing 60x60Dance, in collaboration with Vox Novus. Jeramy Zimmerman/CatScratch Theatre created a structure that brings together 60 choreographers and more than 120 dancers per performance. For two years the project was directed by Jeramy Zimmerman; it is now directed by Vox Novus.
Our latest project, HOMELAND, brings the ideas of encountered performance into a more formalized theater setting.
After the show on Saturday, Feb 27, there will be Wrap-up Gala. We'll have drinks, distribute unused duct tape in interesting ways and there will be prizes. Tickets for the Wrap-up (including the performance) are $50 in advance. We hope you can join us. We promise it'll be a good time. Part of the proceeds from the Gala will benefit Rural Haiti Project (http://www.ruralhaitiproject.org/).
