The Felix Culpa
The Felix Culpa is a four-piece band from the Illinois/Wisconsin border (Mark, Tristan, Joel, Dustin). They are best described as a Progressive Indie band with post-hardcore elements. Originally starting life as "twostepsback," the Felix Culpa has rapidly evolved into a band with a rabid fan base and near-national distribution and attention. The name "The Felix Culpa" loosely translates into "the fortunate fault," "blessed fault," "fortunate fall," or "happy mistake". It refers to Adam and Eve's fall through original sin; without which, we would know not the existence of free will. Their debut LP, Commitment, can be found at their website, Common Cloud Records (their former distributor), or on iTunes.
The band has been featured in Alternative Press Magazine more than half a dozen times, making appearances in sections such as "100 Bands to Know," and "Top 10 Songs Over 10 Minutes Long." The publication gave Commitment a 4/5 rating and hailed it as a "Post-Hardcore masterpiece" and "one of 2004's most underrated full-lengths" as well as stating that the follow-up EP, Thought Control, had "a better sense of melody, dissonance and all-around importance than whatever you're currently listening to."
The band most recently released a digital EP under the title 'SoSoRemission'. It consists of recordings made towards the end of 2006, and is the final release made by the band as a three-piece. In the same vein as Radiohead's In Rainbows, they released it with the option to either buy the EP or alternatively downloading it for free.
The Felix Culpa independently released their long-awaited and highly anticipated new full-length album, "Sever Your Roots" on January 23, 2010. They kicked off the album's release with a headlining show at the The Metro in Chicago, IL. Since it's release, Sever Your Roots has been enjoying rave reviews and almost unanimous praise for it's ambitious production, complex yet accessible songwriting, and exceptional musical ability.
