Batimbo Beats Benefit Concert
In traditional Burundian culture, drums were considered sacred objects, played by ritualists in special circumstances. Today, the drum is still a revered and popular instrument but it is most commonly played at national festivals and for guests.
Earlier this year, Batimbo Beats was invited to perform at the International Festival of Raleigh in North Carolina which is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the group. The event is a prestigious, two-week long celebration of the world's cultural heritage through traditional folk music and dance. In order to attend, Batimbo Beats must raise money to pay for travel expenses and lodging.
The band will perform with a group of dancers for the duration of the show. Traditional Burundian drumming is incredibly lively and you can expect to see the band members balancing the 40lb drums on their heads, ritual dancing, and the occasional air flip. This is an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in Burundian Culture!
