The Wreck Of The Medusa
It was the worst naval disaster of the 19th century. In 1816, the French frigate Medusa ran aground off the coast of Africa. In the ensuing chaos, 150 passengers were forced onto a makeshift raft while the captain sailed safely to shore in a boat. When the 15 raft survivors returned to France to tell their story, they were blacklisted and slandered by a government desperate to cover up the truth. A collage of perspectives, THE WRECK OF THE MEDUSA uses the survivors' firsthand accounts, as well as the bizarre variety of artworks inspired by the event--including a British musical comedy and Gericault's notorious painting--to tell this gripping story of politics, cannibalism, and art. The Plagiarists are very proud to present the world premiere of THE WRECK OF THE MEDUSA.
