7:30-8:00 David Berkeley 8:15-9:30 Dan Bern
DAN BERN has released 18 albums since 1997 and built a loyal following based on prodigious touring and output of songs in all forms. The LA-based songwriter is perhaps best known for his film writing. He composed scores of songs for Judd Apatow's Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and Get Him to the Greek, Jake Kasdan's Zero Effect, and other films. Bern wrote Swing Set, a duet with Emmylou Harris, for the off-Broadway production of Family Week (directed by Jonathan Demme) and wrote the title song for Demme's documentary Jimmy Carter: Man From Plains. He has also written with Marshall Crenshaw, Peter Himmelman, and many others. A former NM resident, Bern's album BREATHE won Best Folk/Singer-Songwriter at the Sixth Annual Independent Music Awards. His latest disc is the excellent Songs Of Fall.
Singer-songwriter DAVID BERKELEY will open the show for Dan Bern. Berkeley's doleful baritone and vulnerable falsetto, called "lustrous and melancholy" by the New York Times, showcases elegiac lyrics (Berkeley cites Yeats and Melville among his greatest influences) that confront the themes of aging, mortality, and the enduring and redemptive power of love.
