Presented by Dan Polnau.
Description: Participants will examine where world traditional and experimental modern artists have taken shadow puppetry, a magical and mesmerizing puppet form. We will then roll up our sleeves and together bring to life a Mongolian folktale on the shadow screen, learning to create a variety of shadow puppet forms and how to effectively make them "come to life"! The low-tech/high magic techniques presented in this workshop are perfect for the classroom and stage, as well as the "winter night living room story-teller".
Artist Bio: Daniel Polnau has been a Puppet Thaumaturge, Storyteller, Teaching Artist, Playwright, Director, Lecturer, Performer, and Visual Artist for over 30 years. He is the founder of Dreaming Crow Puppet Collective. Polnau specializes in low-tech-high-magic and voodoo-baroque artistic techniques and philosophies. Awards include The Lila Wallace Readers' Digest Artists International Fellowship. Dan lived on the islands of Bali and Java, Indonesia studying Shadow Puppetry for 6 months.
Coffee, donuts, materials, and fun all included!
