The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a musical comedy that centers on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam County Valley Banquet Hall. Quirky adolescents, accompanied by their quirky family members, arrive to compete in the Bee, which is run by equally quirky grown-ups. Though filled with several moments of humor and hilarity, at the core of this coming-of-age story are significant, familiar and universal sufferings: the need for acceptance, the search for identity, peer pressure, competition, longing, losing, the desire for independence, not wanting to let go, winning, friendship, family dynamics just to name a few. And don't be surprised if you see bits and pieces of your middle-school-self in all the spellers. Join these vulnerable, yet empowered, characters for what promises to be a high energy, high emotion, memorably-eventful evening!
PS. Four audience members will be invited on stage to compete in the bee alongside the spellers: it could be YOU!
