Tar River Swing Band

Nash Arts & Tar River Orchestra & Chorus are proud to present the Tar River Swing Band Live at Nash Arts on Thursday December 18, 2014 at 7:30PM.

The Tar River Swing Band features classic swing band sounds from the all time greats: Ellington, Basie, Goodman, Dorsey and more. The band also cuts loose with contemporary big band sounds with selections made famous by the likes of Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, Sammie Nestico, Les Brown and others. And at every concert you will find swingin' vocal tunes straight from the most famous big band singers.

Their annual Christmas Concert puts the Swing into Season and the Jolly into Ol' St. Nick. The band cooks on swing versions of Holiday Classics such as Jingle Bell Jazz, Here Comes Santa Claus, and Rockin' Round the Christmas Tree. You will also hear heartwarming standards you can never get enough of; The Christmas Song, I'll be Home for Christmas, Santa Baby and more.

Of course the group leaves room for what they like to call 'The Shout Chorus' tunes that jump off the stage some you may have heard and some new ones as well; tunes like Blues Machine (Count Basie), I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm (Ella Fitzgerald), In the Mood (Doc Severinsen), and why not throw in a couple of Sinatra tunes that literally define swing New York New York and Night and Day.

You'll leave feeling like Christmas and swingin' like never before.
