"IT'S ONLY A PLAY" By Terrence McNally
It's opening night of "The Golden Egg" on Broadway, and the producer, Julia Budder, is throwing a lavish party in her Manhattan townhouse. Downstairs the celebrities flow in, but the real action is upstairs where a group of insiders have staked themselves out in the producer's bedroom, waiting for the reviews to come in. We have the excitable author, the unstable & brilliant director, the pill-popping leading lady who is hoping this show will revive a fading career, the playwright's best friend, an insecure & egotistical actor who passed up a role in the play, a fawning drama critic, a would-be Broadway actor who is working as a part-time servant, and a hard-boiled taxi driver who's seen it all. Of course nothing goes as planned and hoped for. Soon, the good natured feelings of the evening grows steadily bitchier - and funnier - as the reviews (all bad) come in. Join in the hilarity, bitchiness, and satire of all that is theatre! NOT FOR CHILDREN. ADULT LANGUAGE & SITUATIONS.
