Evening of Bluegrass with Grier, Leslie & Barnett
Here to get us in the mood for Thanksgiving are three phenomenal musicians - David Grier on guitar, Dominick Leslie on mandolin, and Michael Barnett on fiddle. This is a stellar, world-class line-up of musicians which we're lucky to be able to hear. This show will be done in collaboration with Stone Room Concerts.
David Grier is considered one of the premier flatpicking guitarists in the world, was named "Guitar Player of the Year" by the International Bluegrass Music Association three times, and has played on two Grammy-winning albums. He learned his trade at an early age hanging around his dad, who played banjo in the band of Bill Monroe (who essentially created bluegrass.)
Accompanying journeyman musician Grier are two former child prodigies, Dominick Leslie and Michael Barnett.
Dominick Leslie -- last seen accompanying Phoebe Hunt -- recently won a Momentum Award for instrumentalist of the year for mandolin by the International Bluegrass Music Association. (These awards are given to rising musicians.) But that's just the latest award, since he achieved a series of career milestones before he'd reached the age of 16. More recently, he's won considerable attention for his live appearances with banjoist Noam Pikelny, the Infamous Stringdusters, and the Grant Gordy Quartet.
Mike Barnett also began his career as a child fiddle prodigy, touring with bluegrass legend Jesse McReynolds at the tender age of 15. He's also studied at Boston's prestigious Berklee School of Music and excelled as a jazz violinist, while his world-class talents have won him gigs as a member of the David Grisman Quintet and the Tony Trischka Band.
