Liz Longley at Studio 99
Liz is the Grand Prize Winner of the 2009 Rocky Mountain Folk Festival's Songwriters Showcase. Liz was also honored as a co-winner of the 2009 Mountain Stage NewSong Contest, a finalist at Texas's 2009 Kerrville Folk Fest and an Emerging Artist in New York's 2009 Falcon Ridge Folk Fest.
âThe Telegraphâ of New Hampshire says "Longleyâs songs swell with honesty and genuine emotion that most of us are unable to admit to but recognize all the same.â Even music icon John Mayer, who surprised Liz and fellow Berklee music students when he broke into an impromptu rendition of Lizâs song âQueenâ, has described her music as âGorgeousâjust gorgeous!â
The internet has been equally effusive about Longleyâs music. Liz was voted the No. 1 all-time female vocalist on Garageband.com in both acoustic & folk categories. Liz and Handy Blues award winner Jim Tullio, teamed-up to write the internet smash, âNaked Treesâ. The song became the No. 1 all-time song (amid 3,400 songs) in Garageband.comâs acoustic S/S category in â06.
This past year, Berklee College of Music awarded Liz their highest honor for songwriting, the Scott Benson Scholarship. Her song "Rush" was chosen as the No. 1 song in Berklee's 2009 Songwriting Competition. The previous year, her song âWhatever Goes Upâ was the No. 2 song in the contest. "Whatever Goes Up" also received high marks in Garageband.com's folk category, garnering the all-time No. 1 spot for best melody and best lyrics. She was recently selected by Berklee College of Music to represent the school at the annual Kennedy Center Conservatory Project in Washington, DC.
Liz is often accompanied by guitar talent Sarah Zimmermann. The two team-up for engaging vocal harmonies and a rapport with audiences that is filling venues throughout the region. In addition to regularly sharing the stage with Livingston Taylor, Liz has opened for acclaimed acts such as Colin Hay, Nanci Griffith, Kenny Rankin and Jonathan Edwards.
