Play: Ubu Roi
Portland's newest theatre ensemble comes together for love of the classic surrealist play Ubu Roi. This new adaptation of the 1896 script is directed by Tess Van Horn and performed by a serious cast of ridiculous people. Based loosely on Shakespeare's Macbeth and written over a hundred years ago by Alfred Jarry, this story follows a husband and wife as they attempt to be the rulers of the land. Jarry satirizes Western philosophies and the propensity of the complacent bourgeoisie to abuse their authority engendered by success. Following in the absurdist traditions of the original show, the ensemble will incorporate puppets, confusion, a fat suit and accompaniment by local musicians. Showing one night only.
Actors: Ian Carlson, Deidre Fulton, Nicholas Schroeder, Andy Lyman, Travis Curran, Claire Guyer, Michael Dix Thomas & Andy Hesselbert.
Puppets by Ian Bannon & Claire Guyer.
Directed by Tess Van Horn.
Drums by Ed Knisely & others.
