Yuri Norstein Screening of Classics and New Works
Please note the change of venue: the screening will be at Balboa Theater.
Porto Franco Art Parlor is honored to present the series Yuri Norstein Live in San Francisco. A legendary director and animator, whose films Hedgehog in the Fog (1975) and Tale of Tales (1979) were voted the best animation films of all time by international juries in Los Angeles, Tokyo and Zagreb, Yuri Norstein will present an exhibition of drawings and sketches by Franchesca Yarbusova, his wife and life-long collaborator, who created the artwork for his animation masterpieces.
The series will culminate with a screening of Hedgehog in the Fog, Tale of Tales, and the San Francisco premiere of the first 20-minute fragment of Yuri Norsteins current project Nikolai Gogols Overcoat. The screening will feature live accompaniment by Gojogo Berkeley-based world music quartet performing a new original score with guest musicians guitarist Roger Reidlbauer, bass clarinetist Aaron Novik and drummer Tim Strand.
The screening will be a fundraiser to support Yuri Norsteins animation studio in Moscow. Porto Franco and Gojogo donate their time and efforts to support the studio. We are offering several sponsor packages with ticket prices from $25 to $100.
