2015 Food Media South
In 2010, Shaun Chavis and Jason Horn staged the first Food Blog South, a groundbreaking food media event in Birmingham, Alabama. They catalyzed important conversations about media ethics, technology potential, and creative enterprise.
Beginning with the 2015 event, scheduled for February 2728, the Southern Foodways Alliance will direct the conference. We're renaming it Food Media South to better reflect a broader reach and a programming roster that draws presenters and attendees from a variety of media platforms. The event will explore food storytelling in the digital age.
Food Media South will continue to take place in Birmingham, the same city in which the 50 founders of the SFA first gathered in 1999. Generous support from the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Alabama Tourism Department will help the SFA fund speakers and maintain high attendee accessibility. A Friday night cocktail party, with bites from James Beard Awardwinning chef Frank Stitt of Birmingham, will kick off the event.
Just a few of the confirmed speakers include:
Bill Addison, Eater National Tina Antolini, audio producer Jennifer Cole, Southern Living Tamie Cook, Mindful Eating Debbie Elliott, NPR Angie Mosier, Placemat Productions Jed Portman, Garden & Gun Chuck Reece, The Bitter Southerner Virginia Willis, Virginia Willis Culinary Enterprises
Tickets for Food Media South will be available for $150 per person. The full event schedule, speaker bios, and information on accommodations will be available later this fall. For more information, follow #SFAMEDIA on social media.
Check your calendar before purchasing a ticket, as refunds are not available for this event.
