DEAD ENDS 666: A Trilogy of Paranormal Plays
Fresh off their wildly successful production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, performed at the Jericho Arts Centre, Spectral Theatre Society is ringing in the New Year with their announcement of DEAD ENDS 666, the sixth installment of their ongoing series of trilogies featuring the strangest and most frightening tales to be found anywhere in this world.
For the past seven years the camp-horror veterans of Spectral Theatre Society have been mounting productions emphasizing original works by local playwrights which are full of spectacle, imagination and good old fashioned theme park fun. DEAD ENDS 666 is best described as genre cinema adapted to the stage, a live CREEPSHOW or TWILIGHT ZONE if you will; each play exploring intriguing plots, with unique conclusions, and creating a popcorn entertainment rarely experienced in live theatre.
The first twisted tale of the evening is PRAIRIE WHISPERS (written by Michael Cope and directed by Desmond Hussey), a western yarn about a posse in hot pursuit of a group of outlaws that instead discover an ancient sleeping evil.
The bodies pile up in THE CLUBHOUSE (written by Simon C. Hussey and directed by Kurtis Maguire and Jen Pitt), where a solemn gathering of lost souls soon grows dark, as a macabre truth is revealed.
Finally, SHIFTY DRIFTER (written by Michael Cope and directed by local filmmaker Gregory Milne) closes the evening with a massacre, Leave it to Beaver-style, when an unsuspecting nuclear family welcomes a rather shifty drifter into their home and Junior forgets to take out the trash.
All these tales and more are presented by Spectral's own Squire Winslow, your morally dubious host in the library of Castle Badenoch.
