Your eyes and ears will marvel at this special performance in one of Chicago's most imaginative new venues!

Steel string finger tapping guitar prodigy Andreas Kapsalis and nylon string classical guitar virtuoso Goran Ivanovic have joined forces to form a brilliant new experimental duo. As they continue to create "buzz" throughout global music circles, these two masterful musicians are also creating genres and musical styles that have yet to be named.

The Andreas Kapsalis & Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo represents the perfect alliance of 10-fingered guitar virtuosity, outstanding melodic themes, and dynamic rhythmic variations. Kapsalis' Spanish-inflected playing complements their previously unexplored style that challenges the boundaries of pop music structure, juxtaposing his style with the world-renowned Serbian compositional and improvisational mind Goran Ivanovic. Goran's unique and rarely found talents set you forth on a cinematic array of emotions. Sophisticated yet rebellious, this acoustic ensemble nods its head towards tradition but totally disregards technical conventions. Often called "cinematic" in style, the duo melds classical, various styles of traditional folk, and rock music - each receiving equal time.

Musician and composer Andreas Kapsalis is a second-generation Greek-American and son of a classical violinist. He began teaching himself to play the guitar at the age of 11. A severe hand injury in his late-teens caused limited use of his left (fretting) hand. So Kapsalis began writing and reworking music using the string-tapping technique which essentially allowed him to harmonize with himself. Kapsalis' "10-finger" technique is now a jaw-dropping musical experience. Kapsalis was awarded a Fellowship Grant to attend the Sundance Film Composers Lab in 2005 and chosen to compose the film score for the documentary Black Gold that premiered at Sundance in 2006. Other films include Mulberry Street, Mexican Sunrise, and Retaliation.

Goran Ivanovic is a native of Croatia, a Balkan country torn by the civil strife that engulfed the former Yugoslavia. The musical son of a Serbian father and a Bosnian Croat mother, he has crossed many boundaries in his life and in his music. While he was studying at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with masters such as Elliot Fisk and Joaquin Clerch, his parents were expelled from Croatia and were granted political asylum in the United States. Since his residence in this country, Goran's broad grounding in Classical music has been enriched by influences of Jazz, Balkan and the World Music. Ivanovic has played prestigious festivals worldwide and has taught as a guest artist at major universities throughout the United States.

"Kapsalis and Ivanovic have created one tasty experimental dish" -Guitar Edge Magazine

"While there are limits to what a guitar duo can accomplish sonically and musically compared to a full orchestra, the duo pushes these limits to the extreme. Using two-handed percussion, an extremely wide range of right-hand tonal variations, the full range of available dynamics and technical virtuosity - the duo is able to awash the listener with a wave of sound that leaves one thinking, 'Were there really only two guitars?'"
