MOSTLY BRAZILIAN Join us for an evening of rhythms and melodies of Brazil and beyond performed by local Portland musicians. Don't miss these three acts perform myriad styles of infectious music. All Portland-based musicians - support local music!
ALLEN MATHEWS (Solo Guitar) Specializes in classical, Spanish, and Brazilian music. He is among Portland's top performers of solo guitar works from Brazil.
SALADA MISTA (Trio) Play a rich mixture of genres, drawing from MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) and folkloric rhythms of northeast Brazil (like Baiao and Xote). Luiz Gonzaga and Marisa Monte are among their influences. This is a unique opportunity to see and hear these genres as a small-format acoustic presentation. The alluring sounds of SALADA MISTA will make you sway (if not dance!).
BOSSA NOSSA (Quartet) Play classics of Bossa Nova, Choro, Jobim, American Jazz, and more. Violin and trumpet deliver memorable melodies backed by a guitar and percussion rhythm section.

He has been welcomed as a performer in 6 countries, and throughout the US. Allen Mathews has a B.A. in Guitar Performance from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO, and has studied with many fine musicians in the US and Brazil, where he lived for a time. More about SALADA MISTA: Renata Austin (vocals) is a rising star in Portland's vibrant Brazilian music scene. She has performed as a vocalist and percussionist with numerous folk and contemporary music groups including Brazilian, American, Andean, Mexican, and Balkan genres. As a young woman Renata toured internationally singing with the San Francisco Girls Chorus. In addition to SALADA MISTA, Renata sings in Portland's Brazilian- infused soul band POPGOJI, and performs in a family band with her father and two sisters in the SF Bay area.
Michael Galen (Percussion) is a dancer and a musician interested in music that moves people. His musical roots are in jazz, and his dance passion blossomed out of break dance and other urban styles. In addition to studying jazz performance at the University of Oregon, Michael has studied in music and dance in Ghana and Brazil. The result is a globally rhythmic mind, body, and soul. Michael is an integral member of several Portland music groups including POPGOJI, FRIZZ, Axe Dide, and Bloco Alegria...just to name a few.
Peter Fung (guitar) has been happily obsessed with samba and choro for the last two decades. He has been a performing member of the Manhattan School of Samba (NYC), the Lions of Batucada (Portland), and Samba do Coraçao (SF Bay Area). Peter has studied music in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Salvador, Brazil. Among his teachers are Arnaldinho do Cavaco, Alexandre Lora, and Derek Rieth. Peter is founder of Portland's annual Dia do Choro PDX. More about BOSSA NOSSA: Eri Nogueira (violin) is a native of Para, Brazil, and a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, in Belgium. She has performed in numerous orchestras in Brazil, and currently teaches and performs in the Portland area.
Aaron Peterson (trumpet) studied classical trumpet performance at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Since then he has immersed himself in various musical styles including Jazz and Samba. He is passionate about music and excited to be new to the musical mecca of Portland, OR, where he performs in numerous groups.
Pyata Penedo (percussion): A native of Espirito Santo, Brazil, Pyata is well-versed in many genres of music from his homeland. Pyata is a versatile and dynamic musician. He is an active member of Portland's Popgoji and samba group Bloco Alegria.
