MESOM Building Tour & Panel - December 16, 2014
Join AIA San Diego for an exclusive building tour of the Marine Ecosystem Sensing, Observation and Modeling (MESOM) Laboratory at UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, from 2:00-4:00PM. Panel discussion to follow.
2 CE/LU available for attending the tour.
$10 for AIA members. $20 for general public.
The MESOM Laboratory Building Tour and Panel Discussion is sponsored by SDG&E's Savings By Design program.
Savings By Design: To encourage owners to invest in energy efficiency as a major goal in their new buildings, financial incentives are available to owners when the efficiency of their new building exceeds the minimum Savings By Design threshold (generally 10% better than Title 24 Energy Efficiency Standards).
Information about the MESOM Laboratory: MESOM is an approximately 40,000 square foot building for research and education in marine ecosystems, climate variability and change, and marine ecosystem forecasting. The project facilitates coordination of interrelated marine ecosystem research in various disciplines in one centralized location. The goal is to achieve a United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum rating. The primary source of funding for the $26.5 million project was a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). NIST funding is supplemented by UCSD/SIO funds and debt financing.
Designed by THA Architecture of Portland, Ore., and constructed by Rudolph and Sletten, headquartered in Redwood City, Calif., the MESOM Laboratory joins the David Keeling Apartments as the second LEED Platinum building on the UC San Diego campus.
