Techno Improv Jam
Combined Artforms Research and Development department, publicly known as Tilted Frame, has been lighting up Bay Area improv for the last five years with its unique brand of technologically driven improv. Originally conceived as an evolving platform to test out the heights and pitfalls of tech in theater, the format has grown to include an ever-widening array of gadgets, games and genres. Now the R&D Department is giving the reigns to you. The most cutting edge improv platform in the Bay Area opens up its stage to the public with Tilted Frames Techno Improv Jam, premiering Thursday evenings, January 14th February 4th, at the Off-Market Theaters, 965 Mission St. Tickets are $ 10 at the door and online at www.brownpapertickets.com
The night consists of a set by the Tilted Frame players, giving everyone an idea what this is all about. Next, the stage will open up for a number of sets in which everyone from seasoned professionals to intrigued novices can brave the winds of technology and perform. Additionally, each Thursday features a set of "Sounds Like a Song" where the players sing along to live music and create their very own improvised songs, as we bring Bay Area composer Arlen Hart iinto the mix on piano.
Combined Artform (Formerly-C.A.F.E.- Combined Art Form Entertainment) has been producing new and old works as well as being an active supporter in the performance scene for over ten years. Created by Producing Artistic Director Matthew Quinn and Bertha Rodriguez in 1998, they were joined by Steve Kahn in 1999, and have collaborated with actors, singers, filmmakers, sketch comedy groups, musicians, improvisers, and fine artists in hundreds of shows, including Santaland Diaries, Eavesdropper (SF), PAPA, Tilted Frame SF & LA, the SF Solo Festival, and recently with PianoFight on Shortlived and FORKING (LA). They built Off-Market Theaters in 2005 and took over Theatre Asylum in Los Angeles in 2007. They continue to develop the connection between SF and LA as well different arts and artists to be a part of the evolution of performance and production. The first Techno Improv Jam took place in 2003 and was a way for improvisers to play with Tilted Frames tech equipment and concepts and come together as a community.
