How the facility was constructed and the challenges overcome during the design phase and construction. (The site houses very heavy, specialized equipment in a high wind, seismic area and has extremely poor soils due to the site being a reclaimed marsh). The design rational and construction process used to renovate an existing building to meet current code requirements. (The existing facility was actually 3 building that were constructed in 1945, 1966 and 1988). The methodology used to design a building to house equipment that is to test wind turbines that do not currently exist. (The cost of the testing equipment in the facility is 1.5x times that of the actual facility construction cost). The utilization of the "electrical grid simulator". (This simulator is used to advance our knowledge of the current electrical grid).
IMPORTANT TO NOTE FOR TOUR!!! Hard hats and safety glasses are required for the tour and these will be reserved and provided for the first 30 people who RSVP.
