Kyle Morgan / Robinson & Rohe
Robinson & Rohe is the duo of Liam Robinson and Jean Rohe. They bring their folk-music upbringing and contemporary sensibilities to songs new and old. Their tight compelling harmonies will get you listening, and their rousing spirit will get you singing!
A crowd of friends and neighbors has gathered in the living room on one of the longest nights of the year. All is warm and cozy inside, while the cold winter wind blows just outside the door. The clatter of wine glasses and mugs filled to the brim with hot cider gives way to silence. And from that radiant silence emerges a song.
For the past eight years, Robinson & Rohe has been performing a Lightbox Christmas Concert and Singalong. Annually hosted in our home (always teeming with friends and neighbors), this event is full of good food and drink and beautiful music, and has been a high point for us every year.
Robinson & Rohe go deep into the Christmas repertoire: the mystical, the melancholic, the soulful, the sublime. We are particularly drawn to the haunting melodies of old Europe, the joyful singalongs of the southern US, modern takes on the strange and ancient Christmas tale, and solstice songs. This year, we are traveling with a gorgeous set piece, a triptych of paper cut light boxes designed by illustrator Andrew Benincasa.

Kyle Morgan is a nomad artist of word and melody, a philosophizing songster who's dynamic style resists simple categorization. Though his writing draws heavily on the tradition of American song and its roots in old-time balladry and country-blues, there's too much Beatles and Kinks mixed in to accurately label it 'Americana'. As evidenced by his debut 2013 release, Starcrossed Losers, Morgan has the uncanny ability to shift musical moods on a dime from rock'n'roll fueled angst to intimate nylon stringed love songs. Currently residing in Portland, Maine and originally from the rolling Appalachian foothills of central Pennsylvania, Morgan sings his way across America, sometimes with a band, sometimes alone.
In addition to his solo career, Kyle makes up one third of Portland roots trio, Tumbling Bones. Since early 2013, he's joined them in touring up and down the east coast and across the Atlantic to Ireland, England, and Germany. In June of 2014, they released their first full-length album, Loving a Fool, which included four of Morgan's original songs and reached #5 on the Folk DJ charts. Recently the band was selected for the American Music Abroad program: a U.S. State Department-backed cultural ambassadorship. This November, they will travel to Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Georgia to teach, perform, and collaborate with local musicians.
