First Call Fundraising Gala with Dr. Ryan Meili
"Who Keeps Chucking Our Kids in the River?"
First Call is thrilled to announce that Dr. Ryan Meili, founding director of Upstream: Institute for A Healthy Society, will join us as the keynote speaker at our annual fundraising dinner gala. He will be sharing his insights about looking "upstream" to the source for preventative policy prescriptions to ensure healthy outcomes for BC's children and youth.
For too long, we have been suffering from "downstream thinking," that is, responding to immediate problems rather than seeking long-term solutions. Upstream and First Call share a belief in the importance of preventing ill health by addressing the root causes that undermine child and family well-being. Our annual fundraising gala is an occasion to celebrate our child and youth rights advocacy work with our partner organizations and allies, as well as to raise much needed funds to support our work. We hope you can join us and special guest MC Kathryn Gretsinger for good food, good company, and a dynamic speaker with a timely message.

Date/Time: Thursday February 12th, 5:30pm - 9pm (Doors open, dinner served and silent auction begins at 5:30pm, program begins at 7:15pm)
Location: Fraserview Hall, 8240 Fraser St @ Marine Drive, Vancouver, Coast Salish Territories
Tickets: $60 or $30 for seniors, student, youth and fixed income. Tickets include a delicious Indian buffet dinner. There will also be a silent auction full of amazing gifts, services, tickets to arts events, getaways and more, and a raffle for exciting prizes!

A bit more about Ryan: Ryan Meili is a family doctor in Saskatoon and an assistant professor at the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. His 2012 book: A Healthy Society: How a focus on health can revive Canadian democracy has sold over four thousand copies across Canada. Ryan also serves as vice-chair of the national advocacy organization Canadian Doctors for Medicare, is a Broadbent Institute Fellow and an Evidence Network Expert. He lives in Saskatoon with his wife Mahli Brindamour-Meili, who practices as a paediatrician, and his son Abraham, who is learning to pun.
