Event
Brian McCarthy
The first in a two-part series that juxtaposes select contemporary video pieces (Seoungho Cho, Dillon Dewaters) with structurally-oriented 16mm and 8mm.
Employing texts from Roberto Harariâs How James Joyce Made His Name (on Joyce, the Late Lacan, and the idea of singularity) and Brian Aldissâ Joycean psychedelic epic Barefoot in the Head, and alternating between rigorous structural works and experimental depictions of sensuality, the works in the series will establish a conceptual theme conflating time, space, and human desire.
Works to be shown tonight include Takashi Itoâs moebially overloading masterpiece Spacy (1981), Standish Lawderâs Corridor (1970), Choâs mimetic meditation on teeming pond life Show Your Tongue (2005), and Lawrence Weinerâs structural/conceptual porno A Bit of Matter and a Little Bit More (1976), shot in New York at The Kitchen.
