Bomba Dance with CYNTHIA RENTA & TOBY BORRERO at Destiny Arts Center's MOVE-A-THON
The bomba dance class teaches adults and young people about Afro-Puerto Rican bomba foundational dance techniques. The class will be accompanied by live percussion and will provide students the opportunity to also learn songs and percussion patterns that accompany the dance.
Cynthia Renta is a dancer, director, educator, activist and professional public administrator from Oakland's East Bay dedicated to creating social justice through the arts. She has been working with the traditional arts of Puerto Rico and Cuba for almost fifteen years as a performer and administrator. She received her training from master teachers of Afro Puerto Rican and Cuban dance forms in New York City, Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Bay Area...
Elliot "Toby" Borrero, Percussion and Song teacher "Toby" Borrero is an educator, percussionist, actor, musical director and mental-health professional from Oakland's East Bay. A member of the East-Coast and West Coast-based Borrero family of Latin music percussionists, he began his passion for Latin music as a young boy growing up in the South Bronx.
