Through the Eyes of Women Christmas Concert
During a time when it was illegal for women in public to compose music, women in convents were allowed to both compose for their sisters and to publish their works. Mired in a man's world but protected from it in their cloister, these women spent their time studying music, composing music, and performing it to the glory of God in their convents. They achieved a glorious voice distinctly both Italian and Baroque but uniquely feminine.
Works by Isabella Leonarda and Chiara Margarita Cozzolani will be performed along with works by Guillaume Dufay, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Dietrich Buxtehude, and Joseph Haydn.
Soloists include: Luciana Miranda, Soprano; Monica Frame, mezzo-soprano; Michael Kim, tenor; Will Betts, tenor; Max Ziff, Bass
Instrumentalists include: Carlo Benedetti, Cornetto; Amy Brodo, baroque cello; Aaron Westman violin; Michae O'Rourke, Lutes; Andy Canepa, organ and Harpsichord
Conducted by Andy Canepa
