Neu Reekie are cooking up a close to 2014 with a final core show a rich buffet of spoken word, animation and music fae us; and form our friends Moon Hop, rare vinyl and myriad reasons to dance. Brought to you by Michael Pedersen and Kevin Williamson, we're looking for love in all the wrong places.
*****HONEYBLOOD (solo set)***** we've lassoed a rare solo set from Stina and are rather chuffed about it. Honeyblood released their eponymously titled debut album earlier this year on FatCat Records and what a fine stir it's caused; cutting a unique and lean figure in 2014's rock'n'roll climate. Having toured all over Europe and the US (with spots at some of the world's top Festivals), they'll have recently returned from a UK wide NME New Blood tour. http://honeyblood.co.uk
'The demon-eyed duo's debut, recorded in Connecticut with The National's producer Peter Katis, makes for a delightful demasculationbullies, bastards and bullshitters beware, Glasgow's Honeyblood have cooked up 40 minutes of sonic chemical castration and they're coming for every lover and loser that's ever fucked them over.' 9/10 NME
*****KIRSTY LOGAN***** is an award-winning, widely-published writer of short fiction, poetry and journalism. Her first book is The Rental Heart and Other Fairytales, and her second, The Gracekeepers, is forthcoming in 2015. She is currently working on her third. http://www.kirstylogan.com
***** LOKIE WITH BECCI WALLACE**** Loki brings us his new album G.I.M.P. Scotland has just emerged from one of the most turbulent, inspiring, unifying and yet divisive political campaigns in living memory. The new album by rapper, activist and writer Darren 'Loki' McGarvey addresses the referendum result in an ambitious, multi-media project incorporating music, film, art and journalism. A veteran rapper and an important new voice in Scottish public life, Loki has recently been featured in Vice Magazine, NME Magazine and on national TV, and in front of huge crowds in George Square, Glasgow on the eve of the referendum. Entirely crowdfunded by Loki's fans, and aided by writing partner and singer/songwriter Becci Wallace, the album is Government Issue Music Protest - a dizzying, violent, by turns bleak and hilarious narrative about a journalist in a dystopian future Scotland: https://blacklanternmusic.bandcamp.com/releases 'One of Scotland's most prominent and politically aware MCs.' (NME) 'Scottish hip-hop's Chairman of the Board' (The Skinny)
*****DUGLAS T STEWART**** is the leader and chief composer of Glasweigan indie pop band BMX Bandits who've been wowing audiences in Scotland and throughout the world since the mid eighties. Stewart's songs often have a distinctive and wry combination of whimsy, bittersweet romance and are highly melodic. Primary influences in Stewart's song writing ranges from Brian Wilson to Serge Gainsbourg to Disney staples The Sherman Brothers. Stewart has produced recordings for artists including Alex Chilton, Chip Taylor, Stevie Jackson, Eugene Kelly, Ally Kerr and Norman Blake. And now, ladies and gentleman, he turns his hands to poetry as our Neu! Voice. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMX_Bandits_(band)
****MOON HOP**** perhaps boasting Scotland's best collection of rare vinyl having trawled the record shops of the world to harvest these goodies team Moon Hop implore people to dance, digest and deliberate delicious music. Yup.they often bring whisky too. http://www.list.co.uk/article/60869-crate-digging-stephen-marshall-from-moon-hop/
