Mercury Rising: A New Play Competition
To celebrate Mercury Players' 15th season, the eight best and brightest 15-minute comedies were selected from submissions by unpublished playwrights throughout the Midwest. We only selected the hysterically funny, so grab your friends, get your drink from the lobby, and get ready to laugh until you cry!
Directed by Martinique Barthel: Dinner Time by Sam Miller (Madison WI) Life and Love in Two Dimensions by Jack Novak (Chicago, IL)
Directed by JS Fauquet: Revenge of Lassie by Jaimie-Lee Wise (Chicago, IL) The Roaming Gnome by Steve Bartunek (Madison, WI)
Directed by George Gonzalez: Not Art by Joe Rice (Madison, WI) The CDI by Samer Yahyawi (Louisville, KY)
Directed by Molly Vanderlin: Good Enough by Erik Gernand (Chicago, IL) Rainbow Sprinkles by Stacey Lane (Miamisburg, OH)
The winning plays were selected blind, by a selection committee which included our directors. Only producer Bonnie Balke knew the identity of the playwrights, and she was not involved in the discussion, or the selection of the winners.
