Loveland
One night only in Los Angeles Ann Randolph's critically acclaimed new show "Loveland". The audience is advised to fasten their seat belts as Randolph takes a crew of outrageous characters on the flight of their lives. Sex, Death, Chopin - this is one wild ride in the sky and all at the cruising altitude of 30,000 feet. " Loveland" recounts the emotional, hilarious and deeply human journey of Frannie Potts, an irreverent, lovable woman, never shy to speak her mind, as she confronts both her fellow passengers and the loss of the biggest love of her life. Over the course of the flight, buffeted by events both mental and physical, she stumbles her way from awkward confusion to a glimpse of the mystery, tragedy and beauty that unite us all.
"Riotously demented and brilliantly humane"- S.F. Bay Guardian
"Irreverent, hilarious and deeply human"- Linda Ayres-Frederick, SF Bay Times
"Sometimes a comedian makes you laugh and the great ones also make you gasp, but the amazing thing about Ann Randolph is it all happens every other second." - Doug Konecky-SF Theater Blog
Written & Performed by Ann Randolph. Randolph grew up in Loveland, Ohio and wrote this show in mid-flight as she traveled back and forth from Los Angeles to Loveland to assist with her parents' health issues. Mel Brooks compares Randolph to the late Gilda Radner for her audacious humor, her generosity and her ability to take us from tears to laughter in the same minute. Widely considered one of the most gifted and innovative writer-performers in the country, Randolph has been hailed by critics as "revolutionary, Whitmanesque, and a tour-de-force." Her previous solo show, "Squeeze Box," was the Winner of LA Weekly's Best Solo Show and the Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Best Solo Show and was produced Off-Broadway by Brooks and the late Anne Bancroft. "Loveland" is currently playing every weekend in San Francisco to critical acclaim and has just been extended for another 2 months. In December 2009 it ran for one night in Cincinnati so that her mother, the inspiration for the show, could see it live. Directed by Matt Roth. Roth most recently directed the 2008 L.A Ovation Award nominated productions of "Big Baby" written by Joe Keyes at the Lounge Theatre in LA and Justin Tanner's "Teen Girl" at The Zephyr Theatre. Other directorial adventures include the critically acclaimed Texmas by William Wright at the Third Stage as well as last season's edition of the L.A. cult classic Bob's Holiday Office Party, starring Ann Randolph. Matt, originally from Chicago, is also an actor. His theatrical credits include productions with Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre, the South Coast Repertory, Pasadena Playhouse, and most recently, this past spring, the production of Conor McPherson's "The Seafarer" at the Geffen Playhouse. Other credits include Desperate Housewives, Without a Trace, CSI, Two and a Half Men, Grey's Anatomy, The Ghost Whisperer, Chuck, Roseanne and HBO's Twelve Miles of Bad Road.
