Milwaukee Youth Theatre presents the performance of the play, "The Hundred Dresses" based on the 1944 book by Eleanor Estes. A cast of ten children tell the story of Wanda, a Polish immigrant who wears the same dress to her small town school each day, but claims to have one hundred beautiful dresses at home, "all lined up." The other girls don't believe her and led by Peggy, begin a daily game of teasing Wanda about her dresses. Maddie, Peggy's friend, goes along with the game, but feels guilty and sad inside about the teasing, but fails to speak up to defend Wanda. One day Wanda doesn't come to school and eventually the class learns she and her family have moved away to a larger city where being Polish immigrants won't matter so much. After Wanda's departure, the truth is learned about the hundred dresses. Maddie and Peggy learn the meaning of kindness and acceptance of others. A beautiful story of immigration, bullying and compassion.
