Joe Sacco: A Graphic Investigation of Gaza Killings
In 1956, 111 Palestinian refugees were fatally shot by Israeli soldiers in Rafah, a town at the tip of the Gaza Strip. That day in Rafah "cold-blooded massacre or dreadful mistake" reveals the competing truths that have come to define an intractable war. In digging to the heart of what happened, award-winning graphic novelist Joe Sacco (author of Safe Area Goradze, and the new Footnotes in Gaza) tells a story of event and consequence; of history and how it is remembered and misremembered; and relates life on the ground in a constant state of war. Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life with Elliott Bay Book Company. Series supported by The Boeing Company Charitable Trust and RealNetworks Foundation. Media sponsorship provided by Publicola.
